Brian Smyth attended the Crawford College of Art and Design (1991 - 1995) where he underwent a complete visual education. He majored in painting subsidiary subjects, multi-media, print, video and photography and graduated with an honours degree in Art & Design.

His work has been widely exhibited both in Ireland (Cork and Dublin) and abroad (New York, Chicago and Switzerland).

Brian Smyth's subdued moody images concentrate on a woman's face as a reservoir of expression and emotion. His calm, romanticised painted visages have a dreamy serene quality and also an air of self-containment that five them an agreeable, contemplative strength.
