Debi o'Hehir makes use of the figurative horse as a vehicle
for emotional expression, both through sculpture and drawing.
The horse is a medium rather than a symbol. Its pose and stance
reflect O'Hehir's current preoccupation, even obsession with
the emotions, memories, hopes and feelings which create the
narrative of her grief. Through the archetypal and mythic
figure, which is the horse, she exploits the transformational
potential of the work to help her move from shadows and sadness
trough vulnerability and fragility to the repossession of
the "fleeting, lighthearted and whimsical side of the
spirit".
