Harvest Symphony
October 14th – November 12th

Trevor Geoghegan Paddy
Lennon James
May
Autumn is a time of reflection and change and this October,
we are delighted to present a ‘harvest’ of new work from some of our top
artists and to introduce you to the work of James May.
Through pensive landscapes and rich still life compositions
by Trevor Geoghegan and the ever-changing mood in Cloe Cloherty’s large-scale canvases,
the season truly comes alive; the warm breathe of Paddy Lennon’s horses, almost
palpable in the crisp air. The exhibition also includes Lisa Ballard and Lucy
Doyle with works in oil, acrylic and charcoal. http://www.irishartinlondon.com/current.htm

Artist News
Joseph Sloan

Joseph
Sloan Island
During his
recent visit to the gallery, we were delighted to hear of Joseph Sloan’s
successful retrospective exhibition as part of Kilkenny Arts Week. The
exhibition was held in the Garden Suite of the Kilkenny Ormonde Hotel and
included some forty sculptures, from the miniature to the very large, both
indoor and outdoor pieces, spanning a career of more than 30 years. Born in
1940 in Warrenport, Co Down, Sloan is a self-taught artist who began his career
in professional theatre before moving into the visual arts. In his work, he
endeavours to push the boundaries of sculpture by exploring different
techniques and working with figurative imagery.” Art happens in the mind’s eye,
but then it has to be created”. Joe’s latest work at the gallery is innovative;
Island, standing
strong in wood, steel and stone while Icarus, a small delicate piece cast in bronze, brings to life
the story of the boy who flew too close to the sun.

Cormac O’Leary

Erie Canal Project
Cormac
O’Leary has recently returned from the United States, where he participated in
a residency as part of the ReInspired: An Artistic Navigation of the Erie Canal
project. The Erie Canal was first proposed in 1808, a canal connecting the Erie
Lake in the West with the Hudson River in the East. America’s first major civil
engineering project, it was often referred to as the eighth wonder of the world
when it was completed in 1825 by an army of surveyors, engineers, workmen and
visionary leaders. Cormac was invited to represent Ireland, the homeland of
many of the workmen on the project. “ReInspired” is a record, through the eyes
of a collection of international artists, of the canal’s journey from lake to
river. The exhibition was unveiled at the World Canal Conference in Rochester
before moving to the Renesselaer Polytech Institute in Troy, New York. It will
travel to the Italian Cultural Institute in New York in December.

Introducing
It is always
lovely to welcome new artists to the gallery and this season we would like to
introduce you to the work of John Gannon and Victor Richardson.
John Gannon

Floor Exercise II
John Gannon has worked at the Dublin Art Foundry,
the first art foundry in Ireland, since 1973. In 1986, along with two other
artists, he became owner / director. John turned to sculpting having mastered
the technical processes involved in preparing, moulding, casting and finishing
the work of the artists who used the foundry services. His work portrays the
fluidity of the human form highlighted by reflection and balance. Art, to John,
is a lifetime experience, “One cannot just dip ones little toe into the water
but rather be fully immersed”

Victor Richardson

Willows
Victor
Richardson was born in Belfast in 1952. He moved to
Cork in 1974 and has worked as a professional painter since 1980, exhibiting widely
in Ireland, Britain and the U.S.A. “I have always
been drawn to the possibilities of light, texture, colour and design afforded
by trees and water, often the raw materials of my landscapes. Over the years, I
have developed my own distinctive approach to landscape, interpreting it in the
impressionist spirit but with a modern style. My world is not as it truly is,
but how it ought to be. Perhaps I try to speak not so much to the mind, but to
the heart, for surely reflection and beauty have more to do with sensitivity
than with intelligence."
