Eugene MacGowan

Eugene MacGowan'MacGowan ' is the signature of the Irish artist. Eugene MacGowan attended Art College in Dublin at night during the 1970's whilst working by day on Dublin docks. He then went to university, where he graduated in 1988 with degrees in both arts and sciences becoming a prize winning student in the process.

Strong colours and bold outlines typify Magowan's art. He is concerned with the individual and what he calls ' The Fragility of Self' - our sense of identity within any group sense of identity. He questions the values conferred by group activities, from religious cermonial displays to branded corporate outings.

Magowan: I am sensitive to any flag-waving, any reinforcement of a collective identity. My subjects are people whom I think of as 'lost of seeking souls', people searching for relevance, meaning and identity within all the grand contemporary debates and discourses.

Magowan continues to live and work from his studio in Dublin. He regularly exhibits in Ireland and abroad.
