Lucy was born in 1959. After winning a Wilkinson Scholarship, she
graduated from Sheffield College of Art with a degree in Painting
and Printmaking. In 1982 she returned to live in Ireland and
now works from her studio in Avoca, Co. Wicklow.
Her inspiration is drawn from a wealth of sources including
ancient decorative arts, Matisse and Bonnard. She is a vibrant
colourist, painting still life and interiors, with figurative
and landscape elements. Lucy works in oils on canvas and board,
applying thick, impasto paint with a palette knife which she
says prevents her becoming too absorbed with detail, and also
helps to bring out the full texture and intensity of colour
which is a hallmark of her work.
Lucy‘s work is highly regarded and is on public display at
Trinity College, Dublin, The Office of Public Works and St
James’ Hospital. Her work is permanently shown at two Dublin
art galleries and is in many public and private collections.
She exhibits internationally in Stockholm, France and Italy
and in 1985 she won the Windsor & Newton Prize at the
National Portrait Award Exhibition in Dublin.
