Shane
Johnson
Shane grew up in Cork and began his studies at the Crawford School of
Art, moving on to the College of Marketing and Design in Dublin
to specialise in graphic design. He became a freelance illustrator
and turned is illustrative style to creating paintings of Baltimore
in West Cork, the place where he spent his summers and where he
began his painting career in the early 90s.
His paintings, often humorous depictions of Irish coastal life,
are sometimes described as naive or primitive.
He has held two solo exhibitions at the Kent Gallery in Kinsale,
Co. Cork and now exhibits full-time in the Kent Gallery, the Waldock
Gallery and Bridge Gallery in Dublin. His work can also be seen
in private collections in Britain, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany,
Sweden and the USA. |
